Summer Heats Up eCommerce Applications
Welcome
to the Summer 2005 Edition of News From the Kore. It's been a hot
summer here in San Diego, and here at Kore Technologies. We have been busy
with many projects and we've noticed that many of our clients are much
busier too as the economy seems to be improving in many sectors. eCommerce
appears to be having a resurgence as many companies are either replacing
older Web storefront and portal software with newer technology, or
venturing into the world of eCommerce for the first time. If your
company is considering new or updated Web software, remember that Kore's KommerceServer
webStoreFront and
webPortal are easy to implement, feature rich, and cost-effective
solutions. Please call us for more information, we'd be happy to show
you a product demonstration.
Birthdays Galore at Kore--We're
not getting older, we're getting better!

Since our last newsletter there have been 5 birthdays at
Kore!: Rob, John, Chuck, Eric, and Paul Trebbien in that order.
One of our traditions at Kore is to have a group lunch when someone has a
birthday and the birthday person gets to choose the location. And if that
weren't good enough, Kore even sponsors the lunch and picks up the tab!
This makes it a lot easier to get everyone together for the lunch.
Of the five birthdays, we celebrated a milestone birthday
for Rob--his 40th! Another tradition here at Kore is that for these
special birthdays we plan something a little bigger than a lunch at our
local eatery. For Rob, being the big baseball fan he is, we surprised
him with an outing to see our San Diego Padres play one of their
afternoon games. It doesn't really matter what team the Padres played,
the object was to get out and celebrate Rob's birthday and have some
fun. But for the record the Padres beat the Atlanta Braves 8-4 in what
we are now looking back on as the best month in the Padres franchise
history, as they finished May with a record of 22-6. Don't bother
looking at their record after that however, not as impressive.
Rob was given the full treatment for his big day, which
included a limo bus ride to and from the ballpark, dinner after the game
at someone's favorite post-game restaurant (rhymes with Looters), and we
finished up the evening by playing pool at one of the fine
establishments in our renovated downtown San Diego gas lamp district.
The picture above is as we arrived at Petco Park for the
ball game. It was very hot this particular day so it was important for
the team to stay hydrated. We were happy to find out the limo bus was
equipped with water and other beverages to keep us from getting
parched. From left to
right in the Front row: Rob Morrison (aka Birthday Guy!),
Deron Young (friend), Dave Roper (Kore business partner), Ken Dickinson,
Burt Repine (friend), and Paul Trebbien. Back Row: Eric
Yarborough, Andy Blanchard, Keith Lambert, Michelle Durbin, and John
Bosley. Other Kore Team members not pictured are:
Bob Bottomley, Paul Bressler, Frank Busalacchi, Frank Kertai, Rishi
Persad, and Jeremy Segal. |

Tech Tip: Import Excel Data into DataFlo with
wIntegrate
By Frank Kertai

Using the Export function of wIntegrate is a
great way to load data into your DataFlo files from an Excel
spreadsheet. When would this be useful? How about when your company
acquires the product line of another company and you need to upload a
few hundred or a few thousand parts and all they give you to work with
is an Excel spreadsheet? Have no fear – the solution is near!
Read
the Tech Tip.
Please contact us at

if you would like to share one of your Tech Tips or
need help solving a technical challenge. We would be happy to help you. |

I’ve
just returned from vacationing in Idaho, I visited my brother in McCall.
What a place – he’s up in the mountains, a few blocks from the Payette Lake,
and has a forest right across the street. They have rivers, mountains,
valleys (some cut by glaciers), and thousands of miles of dirt roads that go
everywhere – we only explored a couple hundred miles of them. One of our
excursions was to Yellowpine, a town of 40 residents which is famous for
their Harmonica Festival. The trip to Yellowpine was 50 miles one way on
dirt roads, I snapped a couple of pictures along the way which you might
enjoy: a beautiful pond, a
glacier valley, and a
scenic river. On other
adventures, we soaked in hot springs, did miles of hiking, and ate lots of
huckleberries, thimbleberries, and some I don’t remember the names of. We
saw a lot of wildlife including Deer, Elk, Red Foxes, Pileated Woodpeckers,
Black Headed Grosbeaks, Black Capped and Mountain Chickadees, Rufous and
Broad Tailed Hummingbirds, and several Osprey including one nesting. We did
not see any bears but there are Brown Bear and Grizzlies up there. Remember
the Boise Cascade Company (lumber) from old, well we visited both cities,
flew in/out of Boise and went to the county fair in Cascade. Oh, I should
mention that the food was great, especially at Grandma’s Café (in Cascade)
and the Riverside Café (north of Boise). This was a very special adventure
as we did pretty much all the vacation things I really like to do. Richard
and Sue Ann thank you so much for having us, next time I’ll bring my fishing
gear…Things have been a little slow in my woodshop lately; it’s
been pretty hot and muggy. I did complete those picture frames, sort of
Greene & Greene copies, which came out rather nice and have started making a
Welsh Dragon and a Gargoyle jig saw puzzles out of hard maple. The cutting
was a little slow as they have lots of curves and the wood is hard and pretty
thick for my scroll saw. I did learn a trick that seems to cool the blade
when cutting and that’s to put a piece of clear packing tape over the wood
surface I’m cutting. I haven’t gotten to sanding and finishing yet to see if
there is any residue left on the wood from the tape, hopefully not. Anyway,
when I finish a few I’ll include a picture of them in the Kore Newsletter as
they are totally beautiful.
Programmers, how are you doing with DataFlo reporting?
Have you tried converting the Report Manager reports whose output is
generated by a basic program to use the Preview work files (TWFnnn) so that
the output can be Exported? Now a days, it seems that Planners, Cost
Accountants, Sales Reps, as well as Accounting like some of their reports in
Excel. You can add many more columns to the Exported data than you can to
the printed data. For a little advice in this area, I wrote about them in
our first few issues of the Kore Newsletter. Please feel free to call me if
I can be of assistance.
Also, programmers did you know there are
2 ways to run a Report Manager process in the "Watch" mode?
- In
the Report Manager Editor, at the Control Prompt you can ‘zoom’ to ‘Run
Report’ and then choose the "Watch" mode.
- At
TCL, execute the report using the DW command with a W option, for
example to run MSO-R-01 do: DW MSO-R-01 (W
This "Watch" mode allows you to see the
processing steps the report manager goes through which can be very helpful
when debugging a report. The Report Manager displays the "Processing step" and you’ll need to hit <Return> to execute it. The processing steps are:
-
Delete the List (Preview user# specific), i.e. DELETE-LIST RPTMGR2
-
Executing the Selection Statement
-
Saving the List, i.e. SAVE-LIST RPTMGR2
-
Getting the List – note, if no items are selected you’ll receive an
error message
-
Executing the Calculation Subroutine
-
And Executing the Display Statement
If your report does not run in the Watch
mode, examine the 0 (zero) element of your screen and you’ll probably find that the
CID variable is being filled by prompting Preview for the Process-ID, you
can temporarily hard-code CID equal to the Process-ID.
Please remember,
“Great Service to your Customer is always rewarded”.
Paul’s
Questions
and Answers
I always enjoy answering your questions!
So everyone, if there’s a question you have on how something works,
e-mail it to me at
pault@koretech.com.
I hope you find these tips useful:
Question:
How does DataFlo calculate Average Monthly Demand for
Parts?
Answer:
Whether it’s run from the Daily Inventory Process, or on newer releases
from the menu, the calculation for the Average Monthly Demand is the
same:
Note,
Miscellaneous Issues are Miscellaneous Inventory Transfers of Type 1 or
2. It is important that if your Inventory needs to be adjusted you use the
Cycle Count module to correct it rather than a Miscellaneous Inventory
Transfer.
Question:
In the UniData Basic Debugger how can we get it to skip
through the Preview programs?
Answer (from Frank Kertai):
When stepping
through code line-by-line and you encounter an HW or PV subroutine,
press <Return> to the prompt for source code location. Enter the
command "OUT". This will allow the Basic code to run until it returns
from the HW/PV subroutine. |
