I
want to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday season!
This time of the year is one of the favorites around my
house as it all starts the weekend before Thanksgiving with a party where we
always watch the movie "Home for the Holidays" – we’ve identified most of
our family members in this movie and it’s an event with lots of laughs.
Thanksgiving is next which is pretty much a full day of celebration and
feasting followed by another full day of feasting, games, and movies. This
year the theme was pajama day and I won "Best Overall Pajamas" for my
Rudolph shorts complete with antlers (sticking out of my shorts)--sorry no
picture but they were very funny. Coming up is our Christmas party and, of
course, New Year's both with feasts.
I must pay tribute to my wife, as she
really shines this time of the year. All those parties will be at our house
and they just would not happen without all the "hard" work she does: the
planning, cooking, and everything else. Note, my idea of a party is "let’s
barbeque" and Joy’s starts with a party to plan the party a week before.
The next event I’ll be at is the International Spectrum
Conference in March (see article above). We went to
the one last year in San Diego and had a great time, several of my customers
were there and a dozen of my old friends. I should mention that this is a
very worthwhile conference to attend if you’re running UniData, UniVerse, or
one of the other MultiValue DBMS’s just to see some of the products and
tools that are available for your environment. Kore will be there featuring
our Kourier
Integrator product because integrating data with other applications or
databases has been a hot item for everyone running a MultiValue database.
Regarding Tech Tips: in the coming year I’ll try to write a
lot more of them as Tech Tips are a great "vehicle"’ for quickly getting an
answer. We have several tips in the
archive on our Web site but if
you don’t see a tip for what you wish to accomplish, please feel free to
email or call me.
I've
been a little busy in my shop lately, as you can see in the picture, I
finished the 5 little roadster race cars which came out really nice. 3 of
them are made from Cherry with a Maple racing stripe and 2 were Oak with
Cherry fenders, I’ve already given one of them away to the little boy up the
street. I made 8 of the Greene & Greene picture frames all in Oak and am now
working on 4 more. Oh, that’s one of my Grandson’s in the Greene & Greene
frame and the other picture frame is a much different style, one of a dozen
I made earlier this year, it has my son in his football Jersey. The Dragons
and Gargoyles project has been on hold but I’ll probably get to them soon
and will have pictures of them for the next newsletter as they are really
beautiful.
We’re getting to the end of the year for lots of
companies and I’d be very happy to help if you need me. In our
Winter 2004 newsletter, I wrote a nice little article describing
the DataFlo MGL Year End process which I’ll turn into a tech tip
soon but until then click on the link above to check it out.
Please remember,

I hope you find these tips useful:
Question:
How do I publish a document which is generated from a
PROC, for example when a Shipment is printed?
Answer:
The Kourier KT.SENDPUB program can be called from the Report Manager or
from a PROC. From a PROC, you need to run KT.SENDPUB and let it run your
print program. Essentially, have the PROC call KT.SENDPUB and let it
execute your print routine. Like so:
123 HKT.SENDPUB MSO.07
(P
Where 123 is the
line# in the PROC and MSO.07 is the name of your print program. If you
separate this statement onto separate lines in your PROC then please be sure
to add a space between the HT.SENDPUB and your print program. Sounds like
you’ll soon be sending out emails to your Customers (or your Sales
Department) to let them know that the order is being processed.
Question: Using
Kourier
Publisher, can I print a form and Archive a copy of it on a slightly
different form?
Answer:
Yes.
I did this for
one of my customers for their AP Check Printing who has the
Kourier Forms Manager and the Kourier Publisher. I started off
creating 2 check forms: one to print and the other exactly the same
except that it had "Archive Copy" written in the background across the
stub and in bold across where the signatures go.
Essentially, I
modified the PROC to save the list of checks to print so I could run
through them twice, the first time actually printing them to the laser
printer and the second time for archiving. For that second pass, I
called KT.SENDPUB passing the Checks Print Program name which created
PDF’s for each check and wrote them in their Checks Archive folder.
Note, I modified the Print program for these new Laser Forms and also so
that I could pass a flag to the program so it would skip avoid
processing the check data on the Archive run.. |
